The Bhutan Short Express Tour is perfect for travelers looking for an introduction to Bhutan.  This 5-night/6-day tour checks all the boxes.  This tour provides you with close encounters with the Bhutanese culture, tradition, and religion.  You also experience the spectacular natural beauty, pristine environment, and fabulous architecture found in Bhutan.  The tour focuses on Thimphu, Haa, and Paro valleys, located in western Bhutan. 

This Bhutan short express tour begins in the capital of Thimphu, where we find contemporary and historical sights to acclimate you to Bhutan.  We then drive west to the Haa Valley, which remains isolated and provides insight into the lives of rural Bhutanese. Paro will be the final destination.  We reach Paro by driving across the Chelela pass, the highest road in Bhutan, and exploring a secluded nunnery. In Paro, there are many opportunities for sightseeing and short walks.  The highlight of the tour will be a hike to the iconic Taktsang monastery (Tiger’s Nest). This shorter tour is perfect for those travelers who are limited on time.

Itinerary

Meet at Paro airport and transfer to capital Thimphu. Depending on the arrival time, you will have a short introduction tour of the capital such as visit to Memorial stupa, Tashichodzong, the seat of golden throne.

Next day we have a full day of activities from visiting main monuments such as Buddha Statue and other attractions to experiencing hands of traditional arts such as painting, or embroidery or weaving, to trying our traditional food with cultural performance, trying out traditional outfits, visiting colorful farmers markets and archery game. Overnight in a comfortable hotel.

Day 3 :
Haa Valley

Drive along the scenic southern road, stopping along the way in some villages to Ha, where you can stay in a Homestay with a family and experience Bhutanese way of living. You will also introduced to Bhutanese cooking, enjoy traditional stone bath and so forth. Overnight in a Homestay.

A short drive takes us across Chelela pass, the highest motorable road in Bhutan. Along the way, we will visit an isolated nunnery and when in Paro, we will visit some of the attractions including the National Museum, Rinphung Dzong, and if you are interested, we can also see the Herbal tea factory.

Hike to iconic Tigers’ nest monastery and if you wish we can also climb higher up temples and retreat centers for a different view.

Day 6 :
Departure

Departure transfer to the airport in time for your flight

Can I customize this tour?

Yes, you can! We suggest if you want to take a shorter or longer tour we can work with you to make that happen too!

How much money do I need to bring?

The daily tariff that you pay, pays for your tour guide, driver, hotels, and all your meals. The only money you need to budget for is for alcohol, souvenirs, and tips. It is best to bring cash and exchange it for local currency at the airport in Paro. There are ATMs available in some locations, but they work sporadically.

What is the weather like?

It depends on what time of year you go. The fall or the spring are the best times to travel to Bhutan. Typically, the days are cool and sunny, and the nights are cold. Some places, like Punakha, are sub-tropical and you can expect warmer temperatures.

What type of vehicle will we be traveling in?

Druk Experience provides vehicles based on tour size. For small tours we provide 4 door SUV type cars, for larger tours, we provide smaller tour buses that can accommodate 8-10 individuals. Our cars are in excellent shape and our drivers are always safe and careful. All vehicles will be equipped with air conditioning or heaters.

How/what should I pack?

Pack light for all of our tours, soft suitcases/duffel bags are best. Dressing up will not be necessary, dress for comfort. Layer, layer, layer. Wear sturdy shoes for walking/hiking. When we visit holy sites, you will be asked to wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts.

Can I take pictures?

Yes, please feel free to take as many pictures as you would like. However, you will be asked to not take pictures in our temples. If you have any questions about when you can take pictures, please ask your guide.

Should be bring snacks?

If you would like to have a snack (protein bar, etc.) while hiking/trekking, or if you just think you might miss your favorite snack – then yes, please bring some snacks with you. However, they are not necessary. Druk Experience will make sure that you are well fed on your tour.
