Itinerary

On arrival at the Paro International Airport, you will be greeted by your guide and driver who will transport you to the capital city of Thimphu (70 km). This scenic drive will take approximately 1 ½ hour. Once we reach Thimphu, the rest of the day will be at your leisure. A hot stone bath or a couple’s massage makes a great add-on for this afternoon (cost excluded) . In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner at your hotel.

After breakfast at the hotel, we will start the day with a visit to the Pangrizampa monastery to have your future mapped out by a Buddhist astrologer and get advice what need to do as per astrological chart. Throughout the day we will tour the Memorial Chorten, the most visible religious structure in Thimphu, and the Buddha Doderma (Buddha View Point) which sits above Thimphu and offers magnificent views of the valley. In the afternoon we may tour the Takin Mini Zoo, home to Takin – the national animal of Bhutan and the Tashichho Dzong, a strikingly large fortress amidst manicured lawns and beautiful gardens, featuring the throne room, offices of the secretariat, and the King. After dinner join with locals to Mojo Park, where local couple or young-star gather for relaxation.

After breakfast, we will drive to Punakha, crossing over the Dochula Pass. Here we will stop for Bhutan’s famous milk tea before beginning our 3-4 hour hike to Lunchutse Monastery. The trail will take you through a diverse forest of hemlock, rhododendrons, and junipers until you reach the temple on the ridge. On a clear day, you can enjoy a 360-degree view of the Himalayas from the ridge. This evening you will enjoy a riverside dinner (weather permitting) or a romantic candlelight dinner in a local restaurant.

In the morning we will take a short hike to the Khamsum Yulay Namgyel stupa. We will also tour the Punakha Dzong, arguably the most beautiful dzong in the country, located on an island between the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. After lunch, we will visit the Sobsakha village and take a short walk to Chimi Lhakhang, the temple of Lama Drukpa Kunley, “the Divine Madman.” Here you can receive a fertility blessing from wooden-phallus-wielding monks. Dinner will be at your hotel on your own.

Today we will begin the drive back to Paro – with several stops along the way. Our first stop will be a tour of Tamchog Lhakhang, a temple dedicated to the 13th-century saint Thangthong Gyalpo, the iron bridge builder. Upon arrival in Paro, we will visit Ta Dzong (the National Museum) that houses an array of antiquities such as ancient thangka (exquisite scroll painting), mural paintings and other forms of art done by great artists, original textiles which represent the culture that still flourishes in Bhutan, weapons & armor used back in ancient times, household items that are typical to the Bhutanese people’s way of life, and other natural and historical artifacts. Overnight stay at Paro.

The culmination of your tour will be the trek to Taktsang or Tiger’s Nest Monastery, the most famous and sacred site among all the places in Bhutan. Tiger’s Nest is stunning in its beauty and location. A trip to Bhutan is not complete without seeing Tiger’s nest. The climb to the monastery takes about 3-4 hours at a comfortable pace. A seasoned hiker can complete the journey in 2-3 hours. The total distance walked will be about 4 km one way with 700m in elevation. If you do not feel you can make the whole walk, we can arrange a horse ride for you to the cafeteria (about ½ way up). However, you must be physically able to walk the entire way down. Finally, we will return to Paro for a hot stone bath and celebratory farewell dinner.
